Victorian Theatre

Awarded to Basil Wyatt & Sons Ltd by Laing Homes, this project involved restoring the last untouched Grade II listed Victorian theatre in England at Normansfield Hospital in Teddington.

Closely monitored by English Heritage, the original back-stage area was restored including the original scenery drapes and converted the basement into a museum and offices.

The building, dating from the 1870s, is now an accessible theatre with a museum depicting the work of Langdon Down, the British physician known for his description of the genetic disorder that is now called Down’s syndrome.  For more information visit www.langdondowncentre.org.uk.
