Recently Completed Projects![]() Private House, Moulsford, Oxfordshire ViewThis new build house on the banks of the River Thames is constructed to a high specification. Some of the unusual features include exterior self-coloured render, coloured concrete profile features and an interior finished with high quality joinery and specialised paint finishes in an Egyptian style. The internal swimming pool is finished in black mosaic tiling. Externally, an impressive water feature flows through extensive hard landscaped grounds. ![]() Private House, Oxford ViewA striking, modern dwelling of exceptional quality with a separate indoor pool and enclosed landscaped gardens. The house incorporates an exposed concrete and steel frame, structural glass and American black walnut floors and screens, together with natural stone cladding to the four bathrooms. The indoor pool features an exposed concrete roof deck supported on slender circular steel columns with structural glass to all elevations of the building. Harberton Mead, Oxford ViewIn a joint venture with Oakland Park Homes, Basil Wyatt & Sons planned and constructed a small development of three executive four-bedroomed homes. The traditional style is designed to blend in with the location, a rural lane in the heart of Oxford. The houses benefit from a high internal specification and standard of finish throughout, with luxurious fitted bathrooms and kitchens. The design optimises the built space with storage areas in the roof space ![]() Warden Housing Association, Slough, Berkshire ViewThis project was undertaken as a joint venture with our German partners, EBT (UK) Ltd, using their timber-framed cassette system of construction. From completion of foundations, it took just 1½ weeks for the first flats to be watertight and five weeks for all 14 apartments to be watertight. The speed of construction and the quality of the finish have inspired us to seek new opportunities to use such systems in the future where both time and cost savings can be achieved whilst maintaining quality. ![]() Private House, Chilterns ViewThis £2m restoration project included considerable structural strengthening, new lime render elevations and quality internal finishes. The scheme incorporated completely new mechanical and electrical installations, bespoke joinery and natural stonework to the bathrooms. The result - an elegant period property with stylish facilities for modern living. ![]() Teddington Theatre, Middlesex ViewIn 1852, Normansfield Hospital was constructed in Teddington for Langdon Down (Down's Syndrome). His requirements included a theatre to assist in the therapy of his patients. This theatre has never operated commercially and has remained in its Victorian state, rendering it unique.
![]() English Churches Housing Group, Carterton, Oxfordshire ViewEnglish Churches Housing Group, an organisation which provides housing for homeless people, commissioned Basil Wyatt & Sons to design and build six houses, along with three special needs flats, for autistic adults. The buildings were designed and built to meet housing corporation design standards and to achieve Eco Homes 'Very Good'. The flats are the first purpose-built homes in Oxfordshire for autistic adults and, as such, have particular design requirements such as under-floor heating and special paint finishes. Our design team included McBains Cooper Architects and Hannah Reed Engineers. ![]() Oaks Farm, Kenilworth, Warwickshire ViewThis £500K project was for the restoration of a listed building, parts of which date from the 15th Century. Some structural repairs were required due to deterioration of the original timber-frame structure, and the refurbishment has restored the house to a fine country dwelling. ![]() Haddenham Studio, Buckinghamshire ViewThis project was for the conversion of a barn site into a high-quality studio living space, incorporating two mezzanine floors each accessed by a spiral staircase. The accommodation includes an en-suite bedroom, office, large kitchen and entertaining space. The charm of the old barn has been maintained in a distinctive and clever design by architect Michael Dolan. ![]() Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham ViewBasil Wyatt & Sons were commissioned by Cheltenham Borough Council to carry out extensive restoration throughout Montpellier Gardens. The gardens are an important part of Cheltenham’s Regency landscape, occupying a 3.5 hectare site at the heart of the town centre. The works included the renovation and transformation of the derelict proscenium building into an art exhibition centre and the provision of new and refurbished play areas. New paths, hard landscaping and paved areas were introduced and spaces created with borders and hedges. ![]() The Beacon Leisure Centre, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire ViewThis project involved Basil Wyatt & Sons carrying out extensive refurbishment work to three floors of this contemporary building owned by South Bucks District Council.
Hinksey Pools, Oxford ViewThis project, for Oxford City Council, was for the conversion of a redundant changing room building to provide facilities for a local playgroup, sub-aqua and sculling clubs. Particular credit must go to our sub-contractors who were faced with having to share limited space with each other to produce this fast-track project. ![]() Bicester Pavilion, Oxfordshire ViewThis scheme was a new build project to provide changing rooms at Bicester Pavilion. Bicester Town Council required this building as part of a Section 106 Agreement with Westbury Homes and the works were undertaken to comply with Sport England specifications. ![]() Christchurch, Thame ViewParishioners at Christchurch decided it was necessary to facilitate greater community use and to provide disability access. The main works involved the remodelling of the Victorian entrance, adjustment of ground levels to include facilities for the disabled, kitchen refurbishment and the introduction of a structural steel frame to create a new upper level meeting room and gallery. Access to the staggered upper levels is via a feature central staircase and lift, both of which rise within the steel frame. Chipping Norton Theatre ViewThis scheme included the provision of a new rehearsal room on the existing roof of the theatre, along with the refurbishment of the existing gallery space. Worton Farm Barn, Cassington, Oxfordshire ViewBasil Wyatt & Sons' own tradesmen completed this project to a high standard and in keeping with its rural setting. Worton Farm is a diverse business which, over the years, has seen the development of a number of small offices, stables, a management centre and the headquarters of a large company specialising in environmental waste disposal. Our employer has plans to develop the farm further and we are currently in negotiation with them to undertake additional schemes at Cassington - a testament to the teamwork on site and our open approach to the project. ![]() Four Seasons Healthcare ViewFour Seasons Health Care, a leading independent healthcare provider in the UK, required refurbishment and extensions to their existing 1990s’ care home in Oxford. The construction works were carried out in two phases whilst the care home continued to remain in full operation. Phase 1 consisted of the construction of four separate extensions together with upgraded facilities including a hairdressing salon, music room, residents’ dining and lounge area, along with special needs bathrooms. Phase 2 included additional en-suite accommodation and a new laundry room, together with new landscaped gardens. ![]() Private Houses ViewThis project in the Chilterns included the construction of a new thatched cottage together with the conversion of two large barns to form new dwellings. The project demanded exceptionally high quality specifications and finishes throughout. ![]() Offices, Winchester ViewThis project was for the refurbishment of two offices and the provision of a new three-storey office linking the two existing buildings. The construction value was approximately £800k. Private house in the Chilterns ViewThis scheme followed on from our previous project at the client’s country estate in the Chilterns. A new-build country house in a traditional style, a lodge and stables were constructed, along with the conversion of two barns. The scheme included landscaped gardens and a new access drive. With high quality specifications and finishes throughout, the construction value was £5.5m. ![]() Hastoe Housing Association, Haddenham ViewHastoe Housing Association, an organisation which aims to provide good quality and affordable accommodation, commissioned Basil Wyatt & Sons Ltd to design and construct these new dwellings including one house and four flats. The buildings were designed to meet housing association design standards and to achieve EcoHomes Excellent. Hastoe Housing Association, Oakley ViewThis was a further project commissioned by Hastoe Housing Association, this time for eleven new dwellings. The homes consisted of five houses and six flats for affordable housing. The buildings were designed to meet housing association design standards and to achieve EcoHomes Excellent. Current SchemesSt Teresa's Church, Beaconsfield ViewThis project includes an extension to St Teresa's Church in Beaconsfield to form a new single-storey parish centre. Christ Church, Oxford ViewChrist Church has recently commissioned us to carry out external refurbishment of a commercial property in Oxford's city centre. The National Trust ViewWe are currently carrying out several refurbishment projects to various National Trust properties in the Thames Valley. Developments![]() Royal British Legion, Marston ViewAfter three years in the design and planning process, we successfully completed this development of eleven flats and five houses. In addition to the residential development, Basil Wyatt & Sons also constructed a new clubhouse for Marston Royal British Legion. With an overall development value of £3M it was rewarding to undertake such a project in Oxford. Our design team consisted of Graeme Towle of TSH Architects and John Winterbottom of AKS Ward Engineers. Peter Uzzell of John Philips Planning Consultants worked with us to secure the planning permission, which was not straightforward, fraught with the usual constraints of working within Oxford. Scott Fraser were appointed as our selling agents and we sold a number of the dwellings off-plan. New Office Development ViewBasil Wyatt & Sons have purchased a site at Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford and have obtained planning permission for the construction of a pair of 3000sq ft offices. We intend to occupy one unit ourselves and shall let the remaining unit. |
